Bolton has been chosen as one of eight centres for DSA's trial
of INDEPENDENT DRIVING tests. Although it's Bolton, Bury ADIs
who are willing to travel can also take part, and earn themselves
£75, and a free driving test for their pupils.
This is how it works:
In January through to March, an ADI can apply for a 'test' for
their pupil. These tests will only take place on Wednesdays, from
Bolton TC. The test will be conducted by Peter Hamer, who will
sit in the BACK, with the ADI in the passenger seat. The ADI must
not take any part, except to take control in the event of emergency.
Peter will give all the instructions from the back seat.
The 'test' will last slightly longer than normal, and will be
on a specially designed test route. There will be NO Emergency
stop included. There may be some extra elements, including asking
the pupil to follow direction signs for a short period, or listening
to a set of directions, remembering them and then carrying them
out.
There is no pass/fail. This is an experiment for DSA. However,
in return for taking part, the candidate will receive a full refund
when they book their real test, and the ADI will receive a cheque
from DSA for £75.
Pupils must be at test standard to take part. They don't actually
need to have booked a test though.

BEWARE PHONE
SCAM
There's a scam operating
where ADIs are called regarding advertising in a booklet for drug
abuse etc, which they claim
will be circulated in local schools. They are calling ADIs
demanding payment for the advert you are supposed to have greed
to.
Please DON'T give any bank or credit card details over the phone,
even if you think you agreed to placing an advert. Ask them
to send you an invoice instead.
If you receive a call, please tell AUDI, or contact those named
in the letter.
DSA examiners
will refuse to take out any car which smells of smoke. Get
your air fresheners ready!
SPARE
TYRES AND TESTS
Spacesaver tyres are not acceptable for test. These are
smaller wheels, and have a label giving the maximum speed of 50
mph.
THEY ARE EMERGENCY WHEELS ONLY.
Some manufacturers (i.e. FORD) are including spares which
look like the same wheels as on the car, but are in
fact slightly smaller than those on the axle. PLEASE CHECK
THIS WHEN YOU ARE PURCHASING A NEW CAR.
These are not acceptable for test because, even though they are
full size they are a different size.
Using a steel rim spare with alloys is acceptable.
